The GR-300 Remote is a custom built remote control pedal for the very popular Roland GR-300 synthesizer. The standard GR-300 has jacks on the back for remote control of compression, pitch sweep, string select, and filter pedal input. This remote control mounts footswitches for all these functions in one box, handsomely scaled to match the design of the GR-300.

In addition, this unit uses the filter pedal input on the GR-300 to add two filter presets, “f1” and “f2”. Now, with the press of a switch you can go from classic Pat Metheny guitar-synth tones to King Crimson style Robert Fripp filter settings. The front left footswitch, labeled “preset” switches between the two presets. The front right footswitch, labeled “pedal” switches from the preset settings, to using the optional filter pedal for dramatic filter sweeps.

The final function is a LFO depth control. However, a GR-300 needs to be internally modified to use the LFO depth control. This modification was originally developed by acclaimed electronic musician and writer, Craig Anderton. Once modified, the player can use a foot pedal to engage the LFO function, rather than the modulation touch switches on the guitar. The top panel LFO knob sets the maximum depth for the LFO, and an optional foot pedal allows the guitarist to control the LFO depth with his foot rather than using the tricky, guitar mounted touch-pads. This is a very expressive, useful modification.
